Long Time No Post
Well it's been ages since I've posted...
I didn't think anyone was really checking out the blog... but after a quick search today I found at least five links to the page.
I have a few photos from about December last year. But with no internet at home it is a little hard to get photos up.
There has been heaps of stuff put up by Twenty Eleven recently around freo - especially on the mad monks wall. Nice work Twenty Eleven. Nicely exploring the border between street vandalism and art.
Also on the old national (the one burnt down), and also the atm on the side of the freo markets.
Reboot has been absent for a while - after being quite prolific in South Freo, I haven't seen any of his vampire robtos for a while.
There has also been a new book published called Uncommisioned Art
Check it out its great - with heaps of perth and freo street art.
On another note - is there anyone out there who would like to take this blog over? I'll be heading over east at the end of the year - and it would be great if this visual history of freo's street art and stencils would continue. I have no real sense of ownership - so you can do what you want, my only hope is that you would continue with the task of documenting this freo and perth stencil culture, and hopefully keep what has already been posted up.
Any takers?

Dress Well
A drive round Freo yielded the following few more:
From Cottesloe to Freo! I'm not sure if this is dressing well though : )
On the corner of South St and Lilly St.
Are you a slave in a suit? (You know you could have been a rock star).
This one is on a footpath in the park across the road from Freo Train Station.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel
Only one from Freo today.
A few of these have appeared lately. I think they are part of FANG and they are holding an event today and tomorrow (25 and 26 July 2006).
This one is from down south at Prevelly - on the side of a bin. Thanks for the photo Erin!
I really like this one
This one is from the corner of Scarborough Beach Road and Charles St.
It must be linked to this.
This is on the Charles St exit off the freeway.
I love it! And I think it has been there for at least a year : )

The Ledge
Along with WHY? the following two are newbies at The Ledge:
This is an old website for National Australia Sorry Day.
Google Bombing
Just a random interesting topic. A kind of internet graffiti.
Look up Google Bombing on wiki.
I think the funniest one is when you type failure into Google - guess what comes up?
Clever huh...

A work in progress
This is a collaboration with a few friends: Edd for the drawing and design, and Ben for help with the painting.

This is where we got to today after a few hours.
3 layers out of eight. This is our third canvas of this particular design.
I think we secretly hope that this might go onto the wall out of the front of X-wray about A0 if Greg agrees to it.

Cottesloe
I was having tea the other day at 'Leaf' in Cottesloe on Napoleon St.
I couldn't believe my eyes. As I was sitting there having quite a good cup of Earl Grey Tea (and yes some of you will be surprised it actually was a good cup of tea! And that's high praise coming from me : ) ) I looked up and there across the road above the shops was an amazing stencil.
Erin and I went back this arvo and a quick 10 minutes yielded the following beauties:
Actually this was the first one I saw - and its on the side of the little alley leading from Napoleon North to the back of the shops.
I love the sunnies.
This is the one I saw from sitting at the Leaf. It is directly across and above the shops.
This looks incredible, except for the serious overspray.
This one is above the alley next to Leaf.
Again pretty unreal stencil - it must be at least two layers.
I wonder if hte spray was used to cover overspray?
Nice work Dokes.
When I saw this one it blew me away.
Absolutely amazing placement! It is about 2m high. Top marks!

Stencils from the Silos
I found a bunch of stencils from a recent jaunt around the Silos off of Swanbourne St. (See this post for more detail on the Silos).
There are quite a few STA around the place. I like the mix of different stencils with the can in this photo.
This one is in the old pumphouse up on the hill. It fits really well with the feel of the place. I happened to cut off half of the tag/stencil on the right. It says Freex. I have found quite a few from Freex over the Silos.
This one is also (I think) from Freex. Quite fitting I reckon.
I really like this monkey!
And I think the the stencil on his tail is also Freex - but not sure if the monkey is his or not.
A bit like the Donnie Darko symbol - though with a crown.
This one is in the bottom pumphouse and has been there for over a year.
Pity about the overspray, but I like the image.

I can't help myself
I found a couple of incredible links and just can't help myself:
The first is Instructables
From Nerf Guns, to treehouses to a Marshmallow Gun!

This next site is Mark Jenkins who is taking over the world with Storkers. I find this kind of urban installation incredible.
And finally the Graffiti Research Lab with an incredible use for LED's: LED Throwies. Check out the link. I wonder if there is any place in Freo where this would work?
Anyway keen to get some creative collaborations going?

Troll Boy, Meik and Undenk
As I've started to take more and more photos I've come to collect a few from each artist.
I've grouped a few of these together:
This is Troll Boy. Check out his work its pretty cool. I have seen stickers, paste-ups and graff - but still no stencils...

Also last week Meik appeared around Freo in a few spots.
I think this might be him.
These are the two pieces that I could find:

Space Invaders
As far as I know there are the only three space invaders in Freo.
Though I think there used to be one Gino's once upon a time.
You should be able to figure out where these ones are from the photos, but if not leave me a note and I'll reveal all.
Pay Space Invader himself a visit for more fun - there is even a perth map. Some bookshops and art galleries are still selling them but they are quite scarce now.
I think this one is the only original one left. A slight hint: its in the West End.
The next two aren't by Invader himself as they don't appear on the maps.

A few more
A few more from the walk around the other day.
These nulear signs are on the entrance to the Woolstores Carpark. I also saw a heap on the footpath around the Nashville's construction work (Corner of Market and High)
This was on a wall on Bannister Street I think. Could have been sprayed heaps better. I like the sentiment though.

Sticker Crazy
I think most of these stickers appeard in a flurry last wednesday or thursday night.
Quite a few different names that I don't recognise. A heap by Cork and Burn.
Burn and Cork up top. With Troll Boy below (he has been appearing everywhere lately - tags, pasties, spray - but as yet no stencil that I have seen. I think I will do a post in honour of him soon though).

The Ledge
For those not in the know - this place is next to the woolstores in Freo. It's the really long metal ledge that you always see skaters at. Not only is it great for skating, but it has heaps of stencils...
This probably gives the best view - plus also a transformer. Is it an autobot or a decepticon?
And which colour should it be - red or blue?
These appeared in quite a few spots all at once. Most notable is the set on the toilets at Bruce Lee park on South St. They also appeared across the road from Aubergines - but are buffed now.

The Left Bank
I got tipped off about a few of these stencils by Sharon from Visual Ramblings - thanks a heap!
These live in a park next to the Left Bank in East Freo.
Thanks! I think I'll come here more often.
I saw this one down in Margs as well recently. It was on the public toilet block off Fearn St in the main drag.
Stealth and Marilyn...
These two are up high.
Real High!

A couple more
This one is from the side of the Fremantle Hospital - on South Terrace. You can see it through one of the broken walls.
This is a close-up. It has been there for at least a year - obviously the grey square goons haven't caught sight of it yet.
This one has appeared in quite a few places around freo recently. This one in particular is from behind X-Wray. I have also seen it at Gino's, the Seaview Tavern, Abhi's bakery and have heard that it is also around the Bannister Street Carpark.I like the detail on the wings - but maybe not so much on the body or face.

The ledge
These are some old ones from The Ledge.
The skater hang out near the Woolstores.
I haven't been there for ages, I'll endeavour to get there in the next week to update.

More old photos from the skate park in Boo Park
I am going through all my old photo files to try and see what I can find.
These all come from the skate park inBooyeembara Park .
These all come from the skate park in
Sample it, Loop it, F*ck it and shoot it.There seems to be some kind of speaker on the left too.
Not sure I get it...
Can anyone read the Japanese?
This one just never seems to lose its timelessness. The latest count shows at least 38,475 civilians killed in Iraq.
So much for the war being over...
Nice celtic patterns
A mix between a wave and an Atari symbol?
Pity about the overspray.

Fremantle Stencils are go
I have tried about 5 different free web pages and blogs and have finally settled on blogspot.com.
All the others either seemed too hard or did not allow photos to be posted.
I'll see how this goes. I may try photoblogs.org when they come back online on Friday as a last-chance ditch at something a little more flash.
I thought I would try and start doing what I have wanted to do for quite a while - and that is to post photos of Perth stencils on the web. I have decided to limit these to Freo stencils as it will be a bit easier to keep on top of things I think.
I think I'll also post other cool street art from Fremantle as I find it.
So, on with the show.
Here are some old photos:
This one is actually on the footpath in a carpark near C.Y.O'connor beach. It is quite faded now.
Just off Alma Street - on the pavement next to the primary school across from the Hospital.
This was a nice surprise on the way to train station from home one morning about a year ago.
I thought I had scoured every surface around there... This one is also quite faded now.
On the side of Spoonz on Wray - actually Little Howard.
Matches nicely with the FANG (Freo Anti Nuclear Group) theme a little up the street.
On the Indigenous art store on the corner of South Terrace and Norfolk Street.
Check out Space Invader for some more 8-bit fun.
Down on the southern end of South Beach (that's the old South Freo Power Station)
And ain't that so.
Someone must have had a mouthful of Christians that day...
Again the skate park in Boo park.
I've also seen this one in a few places around 130s in Leederville (eg. on the power box outside)
The old derelect (~10 story) building on the east end of High Street.
Nicely juxtaposed with barbed wire.
